This scholarship was established through the Foundation, by a generous gift to Mitchell County Hospital Health Systems from the Melvin File Estate. It was Mr. File’s expressed desire to benefit the entire community; therefore, choosing the hospital as the recipient of his generosity. In honor of his thoughtfulness, a portion of his gift will be used to fund this annual award.

The Foundation was established in 2008 to promote and support continued excellence in health care in north central Kansas. The Foundation seeks to encourage study in health related fields by providing scholarships to students in the region.
