Our Roots.

The Medical Foundation was established as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization in 2008 with a vision to cultivate and support a culture of health for greater North Central Kansas. Our team of staff and board of directors is still as passionate and dedicated to this vision today.

The Mitchell County Regional Medical Foundation is lead by a committed board of directors made up of dedicated community members. 

Shelby Bohnert

Executive Director

Shelby serves as the Executive Director for Mitchell County Regional Medical Foundation. In her role, she is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing activities for rural health initiatives. She joined the public health and philanthropic field in 2015 after receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in exercise physiology from Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS. Upon returning home to North Central Kansas, she also received her license in practical nursing. Shelby has deep roots within north central Kansas and enjoys raising her family surrounded by the rural lifestyle and a strong sense of community.

Janea Peters

Community Outreach Director

Janea Peters is the Community Outreach Director for Mitchell County Regional Medical Foundation. Peters received a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from Kansas State University. She has always had a desire to help others live a healthy lifestyle, especially those in her hometown. In her role as community outreach director, Janea works with the Connected Care Team to connect members of North Central Kansas to a variety of services and needs. Janea also works with local organizations, creating relationships to better serve our community. Peters enjoys helping her husband Jerry with their cattle and harvesting crops. They live across from her family farm with their 4 children south of Beloit.
